Electric Hybrid Servicing Repairs MOT Testing
With electric vehicles now coming to market, electric hybrid servicing is paramount to support their longevity.
The government’s 10-point plan for a “Green Industrial Revolution” is to meet its climate commitment of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. They have set out plans over the coming decade, which will include a complete ban on new petrol and diesel cars and vans being sold in the UK from 2030.
The decision is to bring forward by five years, the phase-out date, for polluting cars and vans while new hybrids are granted a stay of execution until 2035 – It is designed to kick-start the electric vehicle (EV) market, which despite recent growth, still accounts for only 7 per cent of sales in this sector in the UK.
How Stourbridge Automotive are preparing for Electric Hybrid Servicing
To meet this target and to support our customers as they move to electric vehicles, away from petrol and diesel cars, Stourbridge Automotive technicians have recently completed their electric hybrid servicing training in ‘Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities’ Level 2 and ‘Vehicle System Repair and Replacement’, Level 3 with Dudley College.
We are also in the process of purchasing a BMW i3, charging points and supplementary equipment, for the business to use as part of our first stage of research and development in electric vehicle servicing. In the first instance, this will allow our team the time to become familiar with what is required to maintain an electric vehicle. It will be an exciting learning curve for us, before we embark on maintaining customer’s electric vehicles in the future.
We will also be allocating an area of the workshop designated for electric vehicle servicing and maintenance for electric vehicles.
