Brrrrr! it’s getting cold out there and so now is the time in the UK calendar when we should give our vehicles a little TLC. Whilst our Audi, BMW, BMW MINI, Mercedes, Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles are good at withstanding the colder months. There are somethings that we can also do as owners and drivers to keep them in good condition and well maintained through the wetter and colder months.
In addition to our winter vehicle service maintenance programme, here are some of our own recommendations for owners and drivers:
Replace Wiper blades – If your vehicle wipers don’t seem to be cleaning the window screen effectively enough, then it is time to replace the blades. Wiper blades that clean residue and rain from the screen will keep the glass clear and safe whilst driving.
Topping up screen-wash – Following summer driving, screen-wash may need a top up in preparation for the winter. During the coming months, roads are wet and so screens can become filthy with residue sprayed up from the wet roads and other moving vehicles.
Wipe your headlights – It is essential that your headlights are clear enough to light-up the road ahead and that your indicators and back headlights are clear enough for other drivers to see you and be aware of your signalling intentions. Regularly wipe your lights to remove dirt and allow them to shine at their brightest.
Tyre tread – As the roads become wet and slippy with leaves, mud and ice, more time should be allowed when breaking and stopping. Ensuring that the tyres are at their best quality is crucial and could save you from crashing the car. Your tyres should have a minimum of 1.6mm. Failing to adhere to this, could result in a £2500 fine and 3 points on your license if stopped by the police.
