MOT Testing

We offer MOT testing here on site, at our premises in Gainsborough Trading Estate, Stourbridge.

After gaining approval at the end of 2013 from VOSA (now DVSA), our fully installed Low Level MOT ramp and MOT testers, give our customers peace of mind, that their vehicle is safe whilst here on site through-out the duration of their MOT check.

In addition to our specialist MOT service for Audi BMW, BMW Mini, Mercedes, Jaguar, Land Rover & Range Rover customers, we can also assist owners of high performance vehicles with low level suspension. Therefore, eliminating any under-body, exhaust, spoilers and side skirt damage, unlike a regular MOT bay which would not have a low level provision.

The MOT test

During the MOT, important parts on your vehicle will be checked to make sure they meet the legal standards. You can watch the test from a viewing area (Stourbridge Automotive Ltd have a waiting room viewing area) but you’re not allowed to interrupt the tester.

Parts that are tested

The MOT guide and inspection manuals tell you everything that’s tested.

The test does not cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox.

What the result means:

If your vehicle passes an MOT:

  • you’ll get an MOT certificate from the test centre
  • it will be recorded in the MOT database

You might also get a list of ‘minor’ or ‘advisory’ problems to monitor/ fix in the future.

If your vehicle has  ‘advisory’ on an MOT:

If you get a list of ‘minor’ or ‘advisory’ problems, these are to monitor or fix in the future, if recommended by the test centre.

If your vehicle fails an MOT:

Your vehicle will fail if the test result lists ‘dangerous’ or ‘major’ problems with your vehicle. You may not be allowed to drive it until the problems are fixed depending on the severity.

You can take your vehicle away if failed when:

  • your current MOT certificate is still valid
  • no ‘dangerous’ problems were listed in the MOT result, otherwise, you’ll need to get it repaired before you can drive.

If you can take your vehicle away, it must still meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times.

You can take your vehicle away if your MOT certificate is still valid. You will only need a partial retest if you leave the vehicle at the test centre for repair and it’s retested within 10 working days. There’s no fee for this.

If your MOT has run out, you can take your vehicle to:

  • have the failed defects fixed
  • a pre-arranged MOT test appointment

In both cases, your vehicle still needs to meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times or you can be fined

You can appeal the result if you think a test result is incorrect.
